How well do you know your employees and other colleagues? It can be hard to understand someone else’s cultural background, especially when it comes to their religious practices and celebrations.
One such religious celebration happening today (March 8, 2023) is the Hindu Festival of Colors, known as Holi (pronounced “holy”). Though more well known as the “Festival of Colors” this special day is also known as the “Festival of Spring” and the “Festival of Love.”
Many around the world know that Holi is the celebration where those within the Hindu faith throw brightly colored powder on each other, but many don’t know the reason or history behind such a celebration.
The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) provides a couple great article resources that share background and history information about Holi and why it is important to our Hindu employees and colleagues:
Remember, these articles are just a start. We are constantly growing within our knowledge in our specific field of work. We should also be learning about the cultures our employees and colleagues come from. Read articles, watch videos, and of course the best resource is to learn from the source – your people.
I guarantee the benefits will be worth the time invested.
